From reading thousands of pages of due diligence to spotting new investments: AI is taking on a larger role inside family offices. We’re pleased to have contributed to Investment Officer‘s feature by Lydia Linna on how family offices are putting it to work.
5,000
pages of M&A documentation reviewed

165
predefined factors scoring seed and pre-seed deals
A shift in how time is spent
Family offices are allocating more to private markets, where risk profiles are higher and horizons longer, so careful decisions matter more. The article brings together views from across the Luxembourg ecosystem:
- Oriane Schoonbroodt, co-founder of the Luxembourg Initiative for Enterprise and Family Office (LIEFO)
- Shanu Sherwani, CIO of single family office Kneip Management
- Andrew Birrell, co-founder and CEO of Allermuir Capital
They agree on one point: AI does not make the final decision. It speeds up data gathering and can flag what people miss. But more data also takes more time to assess and verify, so the gain is in how time is spent rather than simply how much of it is saved.
5,000 pages in 20 minutes
At Buyck Family Advisory Office we work with a self-built, locally hosted large language model. It flags anomalies in documents such as contracts and templates, and keeps sensitive client material on our own infrastructure.
On one M&A transaction, the model went through roughly 5,000 pages in twenty minutes and found a small but material clause buried deep in the documentation.
Had we spent a few hours reading the documents ourselves, we probably would not have spotted it.

For us, this was the first proof that this would change a great deal.

Beyond due diligence
Because we also invest at seed and pre-seed stage, we use models to identify potential deals and assess companies against 165 predefined factors.
It is not a replacement, but it does save you a great deal of time.
David Buyck
Our view is simple: AI lets careful judgement scale further. It does not replace that judgement.
Thank you to Lydia Linna and the Investment Officer team for the conversation.
